Why Stories are hard to save - and what FastDL does differently
Instagram doesn't provide a native option to save someone else's Story to your device. Screenshot works for photos but loses quality and adds your notification to their view count. Screen recording gives blurry results with UI elements in frame.
FastDL fetches the Story's original media file directly from Instagram's public servers - the same file the app plays when you watch the Story. The result is the original photo or video at its full resolution, saved cleanly without any interface overlay.
This only works while the Story is still active (within 24 hours of posting) and from public accounts. Once a Story expires, it cannot be recovered through any tool - only the account owner can access it through their Archive.

Can I download an Instagram Story after it expires?
No. Once a Story passes its 24-hour window, it is no longer accessible on Instagram's public servers. No downloader - including FastDL - can retrieve it. If you want to save a Story, you must do so while it is still active. The only person who can access expired Stories is the account owner, through Instagram's Archive feature.
Does the creator get notified when I download their Story?
No. FastDL fetches the Story file from Instagram's public servers without interacting with the creator's account or profile. The creator does not receive a notification. Note: Instagram does notify accounts when someone views their Story - this is separate from downloading and happens regardless of whether you use a downloader.
Can I download Stories from a private account?
No. FastDL only works with content from public Instagram accounts. If an account is private, their Stories are not accessible to our servers. Use our Private Instagram Downloader if you follow that account - it uses a different method that runs in your browser.
Why can't I copy the link for a Story?
The Copy Link option only appears for Stories on public accounts. If you don't see it, the account is likely private. Also, some older versions of the Instagram app may not show this option - update the app and try again.
The Story link isn't working - what should I check?
Three things to check: (1) the Story is still active - if it has been more than 24 hours since it was posted, it cannot be downloaded. (2) The account is public - private account Stories are not accessible. (3) The link is complete - copy it directly from the Story screen using the three-dot menu, not from a DM or shared link.
Can I download multiple Story slides or multiple accounts?
You can copy and paste the link for each Story slide to download it. If you have multiple Story links to save at once, you can paste them all into our Instagram Bulk Downloader.
Where does the downloaded Story save on iPhone?
On iPhone with Safari, the file saves to your Files app under Downloads. Open the file in Files, tap the share icon at the bottom left, and choose Save Video (for video) or Save Image (for photo) to move it to your Camera Roll.
Where does the Story save on Android?
On Android, the file downloads directly to your Downloads folder. You can find it using your file manager app or the Files app that comes with your phone. Most gallery apps will also detect and display downloaded videos automatically.
Can I download Highlights (archived Stories)?

Is it safe to use FastDL?
FastDL does not ask for your Instagram login or personal information. It fetches publicly available content from Instagram's servers - no different from what your browser loads when you view a Story. We don't store your links or the files you download.
Does downloading a Story count as a view?
No. FastDL fetches the file from Instagram's public content delivery servers. This does not register as a Story view from your account. The view count records only when you watch the Story inside the Instagram app while logged in.
